lean in.

I was chatting with a friend who feels something is “off” in her life and she was struggling to figure it out and unsure of what to make of it. I told her to trust it. When we lean in and trust that “gut” instinct, it is never (or rarely) wrong.

When I think about all the times I’ve ignored that feeling, nothing but chaos or heartbreak or frustration occurred.

We are all blessed with a knowing and if we pay attention, get still (meditate, journal and or pray) and surrender, the answers are revealed.

Always trust your inner guidance.
When times get tough, lean in.
When things go well, lean in.
Be in the moment.
As difficult as it may be sometimes, trust that things are coming together as they are meant to.
And know that you are loved & so enough.
And that there are no wrong answers or paths and that each step and decision leads to the next.

But when something feels “off,” trust it.

We only know what we know and we can only do the best that we can with what we have.

Can you think of a time in your life when your trusted your gut and answers were revealed?

When someone says something about us & we get upset, many times it’s because we fear it may be true. But that’s when the growth happens.🌱

It helps us to peel back the layers & unveil the truth.
Sometimes it’s hard.
Sometimes it’s soft.
Sometimes it throws us for a loop.

Our first reaction may be to shut down, withdraw, confront or post / bash on social media…..

Allow the negative to be a reflection, name it, feel it, move through it, release & RISE ABOVE. ✌🏻

While there is always room for growth, remember that you are amazing human & don’t let anyone make you believe otherwise.

Remember, YOU are love. ♥️✌🏻✨

I recently had this happen to me & I had to work through some tough stuff… here are the questions I journaled on…

• Is what ____ said about me / to me ultimately true?
• What is bothering me about what was said?
• What do I need to recognize about this experience?
• How can I grow through this?
• Do I know my truth & am I confident in who I am?
• Do I need to create loving boundaries with this person and/or have a discussion with them?
• How can I get back in the energy of love?

Does this help? DM me with your thoughts… I’d love to hear. Sending love to you all ✌🏻♥️

happy. weekend.

I can’t believe the week is already over – it was a whirlwind! My family and I spent last Friday – Monday in Blue Ridge, Georgia and it was lovely… a wonderful quick getaway and I highly recommend visiting if you’re able. (If you have been, I’d love to hear your recommendations!) We used to go when I was younger and I lived in East Tennessee for a few years …and I had forgotten how much I love the serenity of the mountains. The leaves weren’t changing much, but the temps were perfect. We went apple picking, gem mining, visited a waterfall, hiked, grilled out, ate s’mores and enjoyed time without technology. I took my “real” camera with me and snapped hundreds of shots that I’m excited to share. Here’s a few…

I also wanted to share what is coming up here locally with my book and some other fun collaborations – and if you aren’t local, stay tuned, I have lots in the works. Brand NEW online courses, webinars & workshops! Oh & I have THREE more books in the works to serve you on a whole other level 🙂

I am so honored to be partnering with the following businesses and entrepreneurs. So much more is on the horizon… I’ll be sharing it soon, I’m just taking it all DAY BY DAY! Thank you for being a part of the journey. I look forward to seeing & meeting you all!

growth & blessings

I attended the most beautiful baby blessing // womb blessing // ceremony. To celebrate & honor two women growing a life …for the first time. 🌱The experience had me wondering why this type of ceremony isn’t the norm in our corner of the world. It was absolutely breathtaking, emotional & one of the most joyous events I’ve ever participated in. 🌟⠀
Transitioning into motherhood is such a beautiful & sacred process…and should be treated as such… which is exactly what this event embodied. During the ceremony, we shared thoughts, advice, prayers, blessings, laughs, & tears. We created gorgeous flower crowns for the mothers to be, the babies and the grandmothers…💐🌸🌼⠀
We, this circle of women with many backgrounds, beliefs, life experiences & stories poured so much joy & love into each other & I am honored to have been a part of it. I cannot wait to share the joy when the babies are born into this world & see their light that they are sure to shine!💫⠀
Attending this ceremony reminded me of how damn POWERFUL we are as women. And how important CONNECTION is. How motherhood, womanhood, sisterhood is NECESSARY. I am to the point in my life where surface level experiences just aren’t serving me anymore. I want to FEEL. For years, I blocked the connection. I kept up walls. They are coming down. ⠀

Who is feeling the shift & need for more authentic connections and experiences? ♥️✌🏻🙌🏻⠀

M I N D F U L ⠀
It was a beautiful weekend and I have so many things to feel grateful for, but it was also messy and hard to some degree. I’ll spare all the details, but what is important is the lessons that come through – “BE MINDFUL” was the message I heard loud & clear… so I wanted to share what that looks like for me in hopes of helping you & trusting this post will reach the right human who needs to hear it as well ❤ ⠀
// Stay connected by being present, turning off electronics and social media often & stop the mindless scrolling.⠀
// Yoga & meditation DAILY, no excuses.⠀
// Journal daily.⠀
// Mindful of food & drink/consumption. I know what makes me feel good & what doesn’t… it’s time to remember that & stay away from what doesn’t serve my best self.⠀
// Listen more than talk. Ask questions. ⠀
// Saying YES only when it serves the good of my family & my soul. Saying NO thanks to all the other. ⠀
// And this weekend, I plan to turn my phone off, be with my family, in nature & with my “real” camera;) as I stay present & in the moment.⠀
>>> What are some things you can do to stay mindful? Is this something you struggle with?

your soul knows.

your soul knows.

Have you ever felt like the noise of the world/social media/society/etc is so loud you can’t even hear your own voice? Do you feel like you aren’t sure what is the “right” way you “should” think or what to believe? I hear ya. I feel ya. I have been there. And I have to be very mindful so that the noise doesn’t overpower my own. It’s a frustrating place to be when we feel like we can’t think for ourselves.

This is something I am truly passionate about, and instill it in my courses and my 1:1 coaching. I don’t know about you, but I have always been a “think outside the box” kind of gal…I do not like to be controlled or told what to do… (hello, entrepreneur spirit) and if you tell me I can’t do something, I say “watch this.” I don’t follow the crowd (not that I haven’t ever, but that’s before I learned how to trust myself!) and I am trying my very best to instill these things into my two daughters. I want them to always feel safe and confident to be 100% who they are without the world telling them what they SHOULD be, feel, say or do.

Can you relate?

Learning how to lean in to the power greater than us, and to our own true soul selves so that we can make decisions, beliefs, thoughts, values, etc that are in alignment with what we truly believe.

So… all this said, do you live or want to learn how to live by your own truth, your own voice & listen to your own soul? If you aren’t sure if you’re out of alignment, you’ll know because you’ll feel anxious, worrisome, sick, exhausted, or frustrated. In other words, super low vibe. Many times you will even feel it physically in your body. (If you would like to learn more about this, message me.)

I’ve outlined a few questions to journal about/ask yourself if you’re feeling overwhelmed with the outside world and know that you’re not in alignment with your true self. Before you answer these questions, free yourself from distractions and get still.

Trust yourself. Trust your soul. It will NEVER steer you wrong. If it’s coming from a place of love, listen.

  • How do I feel? How do I want to feel?
  • Do I truly believe ____ to be true? Why/why not? Where did this thought/belief originate from? How can I rewrite the story?
  • Do I truly believe ____ to be false? Why/why not? Where did this thought/belief originate from?
  • Do I really value ____? Why/why not? Where did this ___ originate from? How can I rewrite the story?
  • Do I truly want ____? Why/why not? Where did this ___ originate from? How can I rewrite the story?
  • Does ____ truly matter to me? Why/why not? Where did this ___ originate from? How can I rewrite the story?

If you do this journaling exercise, I’d love to hear from you — did it give you any clarity? thesoulshinecollective@gmail.com The more you practice this and do a check in with your true self, the more free you’ll feel. 🙂

If you want to dive deeper ….. finding your authentic voice & learning to live and speak from a place of love and soul truth, message me. I have two 1:1 spots available for October. thesoulshinecollective@gmail.com

This session was one for the books. Artist + artist… creating. I so enjoyed it. Katlyn is, in my opinion, a creative genius, and when I asked her to describe herself in one word, naturally, she said, “Creative. I can take anything and turn it into a work of art. I see the beauty in all and find ways to be resourceful.”

Her authenticity inspires me as a person and a creative so much. She says (and lives this truth) “I’m making my own path and reaching for the stars no matter the obstacle and judgment.”

Check out her vision, business & art over on IG! Uniquely Clever and https://www.instagram.com/aunaturelartistry/

…and thank you Katlyn for trusting my creative vision and being an incredible model, even in THE worst Florida humidity we have had – HA!!! ::)

If you’d like to book a creative photography experience, I have spots opening for October & November. Email me thesoulshinecollective@gmail.com

our true essence

I have come to believe the true essence of who we are begins when we are little.

Then life happens, and we forget. We lose it. We become something we are not. Something that does not move us at our core. And sometimes, like in my life, there is a moment when we look in the mirror and literally do not recognize the face, the body, the soul that is staring back at us. And in that moment, we must decide who we are, who we were and what we want to do about (un)becoming that human who no longer serves us.

I have loved the beach ever since I was a tiny human.

I still love the beach.

Growing up on the Gulf Coast, it has been woven into my being. It is a part of me and I am a part of it.

And of course during times of strife, the beach has been my constant. Among other things, it is what healed me during heartbreak, it has been what many times connected me to some of the greatest loves of my life, and some of the best ideas have been born there.

As humans, we ebb, we flow, we change, we become, we un-become, we redefine, we grow.

What is something that is a part of your essence? What do you love so much but never make time to do? Or have you forgotten who you are at your core?

Need some help tuning back in? Going through some chapter of your life where you feel like you have no where to turn? I encourage you to find a safe space to land… and to grab a copy of my Day by Day Creative Guide to help you along your journey. In it, I help you tap back into your soul’s calling and desires and then help you define action steps to get where you want to go. It’s truly as simple as getting still. >>> You can find it here >>> http://bit.ly/daybydaycg I hope to connect with you soon so that you can reconnect with the essence of who you are. It is beautiful and it is more than okay to be you.

It is not my responsibility to convince others to see me.

It is not my responsibility to tell them how they should feel about me.

It is not my responsibility to focus on things that I know are not true.

It is not my responsibility to worry about what others are doing in their lives.

It is not my responsibility to carry the weight of the world.

It is my responsibility to show up as myself in the best way I know how.

It is my responsibility to practice self awareness.

It is my responsibility to come from a place of loving kindness and let the ego mind slip away.

It is my responsibility to create safe and loving boundaries.

It is my responsibility to grow and nurture myself.

With growth comes change and with change comes growth. With both, comes a new sense of being and sense of self awareness. All of which is necessary. It is important to know and understand what is our responsibility and what is not. And for us humans, it’s a process. #daybyday – show up as your most authentic self, trust that inner knowing and things will begin to fall into place. Sending so much love & light and knowing this message will resonate with the exact soul(s) it is meant to. Thank you for being you. ❤

dear daughters … as you begin the school year

[ art & photo cred: my 8 year old ]

I may have missed the memo that we could walk our kids into their classrooms this morning, so mine stumbled out of the carline with loaded backpacks and confused looks, but I am giving myself grace and know that in the end, I’m not perfect, neither is any other human and it’s all going to be okay. And my kiddos made it just fine. We are in this together.

I am sure some of you parents can relate to this and please know I am sending love, light and all the high vibes to you and yours as yet another school year is upon us!! and teachers, we love you, appreciate you and I don’t know how you do it but I’m sure glad you do!! 🙂

I wanted to share this letter I wrote to my babies… who are not so much babies any more – first and third grade — and my intention and prayer is that one day they’ll appreciate this even more than they do today. And sharing because I hope it pulls your heartstrings as we kick off another school year. CHEERS!

Dear My Beloved Daughters:

Today you began another adventure. Another adventure, that in your eyes, may seem like the biggest one yet.

You will walk the halls of a school that is familiar but yet that you do not know exactly what to expect. Your little bodies carried a load of school supplies in your brand new backpacks that I honestly don’t know how you managed without falling. But you are stronger than you think. And if you did fall down, and I didn’t see it, it’s okay. You always get back up. I believe in you.

Always remember that you have a choice. Let your newly sharpened pencils be a reminder… you can always choose to write a new chapter and a new story.

You have new teachers this year. To love you, teach you, encourage you. Appreciate them, my loves, because they don’t do this job simply for a paycheck. They pour their hearts and souls into their positions and we are ever so grateful.

You will make new friends and be comforted by old friends. These friends will teach you how to love, how to let go, how to laugh and you will learn to look into others as a reflection of yourself so you can grow continuously. As time ticks by, you may drift from certain friends. And that’s okay. Some people are not meant to be in your lives for a lifetime, but simply a season to teach you. And vice versa. I want you to know and remember is that you are enough and to always BE YOU. BE TRUE to yourself and everything else will work itself out.

And please be kind to everyone, for you may have no idea what they’re going through. Be the girl who welcomes the new kid and picks up the fallen lunchbox. But don’t take any crap or lose yourself in the process. You are strong and capable and worthy. No matter what life throws your way. BE BRAVE. Stand up for yourself always. And if the opportunity is there, speak up and stand up for those who don’t have the courage to do so themselves. We rise by lifting others.

You have new schedules & classrooms. Take comfort in this space, but know that life is ever-changing and your spaces will be familiar and then they won’t. Ride the waves and enjoy the changing tides. You got this.

External things do not define you. Not your clothes, your shoes, your hair. Neither do those test scores. BE CONFIDENT, do your best, forget the rest and I’ll love you and be proud of you regardless. Nothing is the end of the world except the end of the world.

You will go through some tough stuff. You will have moments where you doubt yourself and you’ll have moments where you feel like you could fly. I want you to know that you can. You can do anything you put your mind to. I don’t say that just because I am your mother, I say that because I believe it down deep in my soul. We are all capable of anything we set our minds to. If we are 6 or 86. Believe it. And go for it!

I hope you never lose the wonder and excitement that you feel at this moment. Laugh often and try not to take yourself too seriously. We are all goofy and awkward and have no idea what we’re doing half the time. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh and who accept you and all your goofy glory!

Forgive others and forgive yourself. No one is perfect and empathy and compassion make a big difference in this life.

As you grow and make your way through the years of your precious life, I want you to know that I will be here for you. I will cheer you on. I will lift you up. Even when you make mistakes. Even when you aren’t perfect. Even when you’re human. Because guess what…. We all are. This life is yours to live and I know in my soul of souls you are going to soar.

I want you to know that you can feel happy, sad, angry, mad, surprised, frustrated, disappointed, over the moon, in love, all the things. And they are all OKAY. I want you to know that you can feel through these things. Those moments of worry. Those tough times. The heartbreaks you will no doubt as a human endure. Just don’t let them define you. And don’t stay stuck in them. You are glorious. Celebrate the good and move through the not so good. Raise your hand when you need help and have the courage to admit when you do.

Know that your feelings matter. Your story matters. You matter.

And I will be by your side always…

(well, except for the mommy-fail this morning when I didn’t realize I could walk you in on your first day.) But my darlings, I will make many mistakes over the years (as we all will) and I hope you always know how much I love being your mommy, how proud of you I am and how much I love you.

Enjoy the ride this year, loves.
